Introduction

Groundwater Protection Unit (GPU) is seeking a groundwater Protection Engineer/ hydrogeologist to join the Water Treatment and Conservation Division of Environmental Protection Department.  Water Treatment and Conservation Division (WTCD) is responsible for providing timely and cost effective technical solutions related to water resources through leadership in technology transfer, research and development, environmental standards, and planning. The GPU is one of the three units in WTCD that provides services such as; consultation on groundwater protection, monitoring, risk assessment remedial technology evaluations and remediation review and consultations. GPU provides monitoring activities to 63 company sites in which a network of more than 1500 wells being sampled on routine bases.  Collected samples are sent to certified labs for analyses. This is followed by site analyses including plotting lab results, evaluating sites by developing conceptual site models, conducting quantitative risk assessment and evaluating applicable remedial technologies, when applicable.  


The groundwater protection engineer/hydrogeologist primary role is to provide technical consultations related to groundwater protection, site evaluations, risk assessment and remediation supervision and administration. These consultations will support operations/projects related to groundwater protection in company facilities and company communities. The candidate will participate in the development of all related activities described above. Additional duties will include: supporting facility operations, assessing new groundwater protection and management technologies for Saudi Aramco applications, updating Saudi Aramco engineering standards and procedures, leading environmental audits, reviewing project designs and environmental impact assessments, reviewing of environmental permits, and assuring Saudi Aramco compliance with the governmental agencies’ environmental regulations.


This position will be based in Saudi Arabia. 

Key Responsibilities

The candidate will be required to perform the following: 


  • Provide technical consultations related to groundwater protection, site evaluations, risk assessment and remediation supervision and administration. These consultations will support operations/projects related to groundwater protection in company facilities and company communities.
  • Participate in the development of new groundwater technologies and in the adaptation of existing technologies to company operations, 
  • Support facility operations,
  • Assess new groundwater protection technologies for Saudi Aramco applications,
  • Update Saudi Aramco engineering standards and procedures,
  • Lead environmental audits,
  • Review project designs and environmental impact assessments,
  • Review of environmental permits, and 
  • Assure Saudi Aramco compliance with the governmental agencies’ environmental regulations.


This position will be based in Saudi Arabia. 

Job Requirements

As the successful candidate, he/she requires to hold a Bachelor’s degree in environmental/ hydrogeology, civil, chemical, or petroleum engineering from a recognized and approved program. A master’s degree is preferred. 


  • The candidate should have a minimum of five years of experience in groundwater monitoring and protection/management area.
  • The candidate will have a good technical skills; experience in Saudi Arabia and Oil and Gas industry is a plus. Certification as a Professional Engineer is desirable. 
  • The candidate should be willing and able to do field work. 
  • The candidate should have excellent English communication skills (written and verbal), as he/she is required to write technically sound reports related to groundwater protection.
