Five new companies will join Photovolt Development Partners, the joint venture of Kyocera Corporation, Muzuho Bank and Kyudenko Corporation, to develop the Ukujima solar PV power plant project in Sasebo, on Ukujima Island (Nagasaki Prefecture in Japan). The newcomers are Tokyo Century Corporation, Furukawa Electric, Tsuboi Corporation, The Eighteenth Bank and SPCG Public Company.

Photovolt Development Partners launched the project in April 2013. The US$1.8bn project is still at the planning stage but the construction could start in 2019. Kyocera Corporation would furnish the power plant with 1.65 million multicrystalline silicon solar modules. Once built, the facility could generate 515 GWh/year and all power would be sold to the local utility Kyushu Electric Power, thanks to a 64-km long undersea cable.
