Adjaristsqali Georgia LLC (AGL) is a hydropower developer based in Batumi, Georgia. AGL is a subsidiary of the Norwegian hydro developer company Clean Energy Invest AS. The World Bank, through IFC is a co-developer in the project. AGL develops the hydro potential on the Adjaristsqali River and its tributaries in the autonomous republic of Adjara. AGL will start a three year construction of the 185 MW Shuakhevi HPP in spring this year. The project has limited negative effects and AGL does not expect any physical resettlement of people caused by the project. AGL will employ a Land, Environmental and Social Director. The Director will be in charge of obtaining the necessary land for the project, handling the environmental aspects and be responsible for the communications with local and central authorities and people in the project area. There are currently about 10 persons working in these fields and AGL expects this number to grow to 15-20 people within this summer. Most of the staff will be based in the municipalities of Khulo and Shuakhevi.
