Fortum opened its office in India in September 2012 to assess growth opportunities in the Indian energy market. The office is located in Gurgaon, in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.In June 2013 Fortum acquired a 5 MW solar power plant in the state of Rajasthan, north-western India. It further strengthened its solar portfolio in December 2014 when its 10 MW solar PV plant was connected to the grid in Madhya Pradesh. The plant was formally inaugurated on 20 January 2015 as the first project to be commissioned under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) Phase II Batch I.
