To provide technical solutions to remote and on-site plant locations for safe, reliable and efficient operation, and maintenance of all electrical equipment installed and operating at Air Products facilities in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and at any other facility as directed by OTS Regional Electrical Engineering Manager.
Nature and Scope
Air separation plant (ASU) is a continuous process plant operating throughout the year with short period of plant outage for maintenance activities, onstream status should be at least 98%. Besides atmospheric air, energy, in the form of electrical power or steam, is the other main component required to produce ASU products. There are many different electrical equipment necessary for continuous on-stream operation of the whole plant, from large power medium voltage induction motor, power transformers, medium voltage air and gas insulated cabinet switchgears, standby diesel generator, low voltage variable frequency drives, and many other auxiliary electrical equipment powered from low voltage power control centers and medium voltage switchgear.
The actual electrical power supply configuration may differ from plant to plant, but in general, electrical power is supplied to the plant at medium voltage level, transform down to working level voltages for operation of induction motors and other loads. In some plants, standby diesel generator provides the backup power necessary for continuous operation of pipeline equipment.
This configuration is equally applicable in air separation unit and hydrogen generating plants.

The electrical engineer (EE) is a key member of the plant technical team. The electrical engineer is expected to provide technical leadership for all electrical matters at the various plants, taking direction from Regional Manager as needed. Throughout the career with Air Products, OTS electrical engineers are expected to have considerable hands-on experience gained from on-site support, and, in later years, to provide guidance to in-experienced technical personnel in timely task resolution and execution.
With direct line reporting to the Regional Manager, Electrical Engineering, Operations Technical Solutions Asia (OTS Asia) and indirect line reporting to the regional line operations management, the engineer is expected to be sufficiently comfortable working in a matrix reporting structure. EE would play a key role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of all electrical equipment while working together with maintenance team ensure good on-stream operation of installed equipment. Additionally, the EE should be able to technical support to troubleshoot problems with electrical equipment. Where necessary, the EE is expected to develop procedures for plant use addressing safe operation, safe isolation and lockout. Another key role is developing and implementing technical solutions to reliable operation of any equipment failure by participating in activities of root cause investigation teams,
EE is expected to be key driver in implementing AP Safe Electrical Work Practices procedures, training and qualifications of personnel. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Ensure efficient and effective implementation of all Air Products electrical safe work practices and standards in keeping with worldwide practices. Provide technical solutions through remote and/or on-site location support for the safe and reliable operation of electrical equipment to operation and maintenance teams. Provide and execute training and qualification programs of all plant based AP operation and maintenance personnel whose duties involve handling and interrogation of electrical equipment such as medium voltage switchgear, low voltage control center and similar equipment. Ensure safe execution of technical changes and modification to electrical equipment and system as needed for continuous on-stream operation of process equipment and systems Provide technical leadership to plant management team through timely provision of information, drawings, manuals and other documentation for safe and competent repair and troubleshooting of failed electrical equipment and systems. Manage, implement and execute projects and initiatives as directed by OTS Regional Management. Active participation in the equipment failure root cause investigation teams, playing a lead role to prevent non-recurrence of equipment failure in all AP plants. JOB REQUIREMENTS
Incumbent is expected to have tertiary education at a minimum of Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with an emphasis on heavy power knowledge. Postgraduate education specialization on certain aspect of electrical engineering will be taken into consideration when it has relevance to the power electrical equipment installed at Air Products facilities. Incumbent is expected to have a minimum of 6 years work experience in an industrial work environment such as chemical manufacturing facility, oil refinery, and steel mill. Special consideration shall be given to incumbent with design and technical specification experience of heavy power electrical equipment and electrically classified hazardous area. Due to the many different electrical equipment present on air separation plant and hydrogen generation sites, it is acceptable to have varying degrees of technical competencies in the electrical equipment installed in the ASU and hydrogen plants.
